Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.
Mr. Wilmer submitted the following order :
Ordered, That J. H. Petticord, Doorkeeper, have leave of
absence from Saturday until Wednesday.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Delaplane submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Speaker appoint a Committee of nine,
not more than one from a delegation, or Legislative District
of Baltimore City, to whom all petitions and bills with refer-
ence to suppressing the sale of intoxicating liquors shall be
referred.
Which was read, and,
On motion of Mr. Stewart,
Referred to the Committee oa Ways and Means.
Mr. Smith submitted the following order :
Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal of this House,
that William T. Vickers, a member, is detained from his seat
by sickness.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Riggs submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Comptroller furnish the House the
claim of E. B. Prettyman against the State.
Winch was adopted. '
Mr. Staylor submitted the following order :
Ordered, That a Special Committee of three be appointed
to confer with his Excellency the Governor, on the expediency
of offering a reward for discovery of the incendiary in the
ease of the ice-boat Maryland.
Which was adopted.
Mr. McCosker submitted the following message :
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
f
February 1, 1872.
Gentlemen of the Senate:
We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
to appoint a Joint Special Committee of three from the House
and two from the Senate, to inquire into the cause of the dis-
asters to the ice-boats Chesapeake and Maryland, and whether
such disasters are to be attributed to incompetency on the
part of the management of said boats, or negligence on the
part of the officers and crews of said boats.
