Maryland has, at no time, received any pecuniary appropria-
tion from the State, excepting an amount for which an equiv-
alent was rendered, by the gratuitous education of students
from the various Legislative Districts, and also by the treat-
ment, free of charge, within the University Hospital, of pa-
tients from those Districts;
Therefore, we, the undersigned, would respectfully solicit
of your Honorable Bodies the appropriation of ten thousand
dollars, ($10,000,) to be devoted to the purposes of enlarg-
ing the Hospital Department, and illustrating the courses of
Lectures of the School of Medicine in the University of Ma-
ryland.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.
Mr. Earle presented the petition of citizens of Queen Anne's-
county, asking the Legislature to pass a law taxing the gross
receipts of all Railroad Companies.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance-
Mr. Henry, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings,,
(reported,
A bill entitled an Act to make valid deeds for lands sold
by non-resident executors,
Said bill was then read the first time.
House bill, entitled an Act for the protection of the Chan-
cery Records of Baltimore City,
Was read the third time and passed by yeas and nays, as.
follows:
