Which was read the first time.
Also, from the same Committee, reported
A bill, entitled an Act to repeal a supplement to an Act
passed at the January Session, 1865, chapter 201, relating
to the incorporation of a Turnpike Road Company from
Hagerstown, Maryland, to the Pennsylvania Line, and to
re-enact the same with amendments.
Which was read the first time.
Mr. Davis, from a Select Committee, reported
A bill, entitled an Act to secure protection of life to travel-
lers on the highways of Maryland.
Which was read the first time and ordered to be printed.
The order of the day being the amendment pro-posed by
the Committee on Judicial Proceedings, to the House bill
relating to advance mortgages,
Was taken up, and
Said amendment was adopted.
Mr. Davis submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
' 'Nor to any mortgage given to secure sales of live stock,
beef cattle, to be delivered within one year after the execu-
tion of said mortgage."
The yeas and nays being called for the amendment, was
rejected, as follows:

"Nor to any mortgage which shall, on its face, require the
money advanced to be paid in satisfaction of labor and mate-
rial claims upon the property in question, through orders in
drafts drawn upon the party making said advances of money,
and in favor of the party doing work or furnishing material in.
and upon said building."
