TUESDAY, March 12, 1872. The Senate met. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Smiley. Present at roll call the following Senators: Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, CarroII, Crawford, Claggett, Denson, Davis, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Longwell, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Wilson, Williams—23. The proceedings of last night were read and approved. The President laid before the Senate the following com- munication from the Comptroller with accompanying docu- ment : TREASURY DEPARTMENT, COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE, Annapolis, March, 12th, 1872. HON. HENRY SNYDER, President of the Senate : DEAR SIR :—In obedience to the order of the Senate, di- recting the Comptroller "to obtain and furnish to the Senate as soon as practicable, the amount of State taxes assessed and collected for the years 1870 and 1871, on the stock and pro- perty or the several railroad companies of this State, as re- quired by the Act of Assembly of 1870, chapter 362," I have the honor to transmit to your Honorable Body, the en- closed statement showing the amount of assessment and collections reported from the different counties and City of Baltimore.
