Mr. Denson presented the petitions of Hordress Young,
Catharine D. Emory and Sarah Thursby, praying for pen-
sions.
Which were read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.
On motion by Mr. Spates, it was
Resolved coy the General Assembly of Maryland, That His
Excellency, the Governor be, and he is hereby, requested to
issue a commission in the usual form to the Honorable George
R. Dennis, as Senator elect, to represent this State in the
Congress of the United States, for the term of six years from
the Fourth of March 1873.
Which was read the first time.
Mr. Wilson presented the petition of Thomas Clagett and
Charles Clagett, asking that State taxes, erroneously paid on
mortgages, be refunded to them.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.
On motion, leave was granted to Mr. Wilson to withdraw
from the files of the Senate, the Senate bill, entitled an Act
giving the consent of the State of Maryland, to the purchase
by the United States of land on the Potomac River in Prince
George's county, for the site of Fort Foote and the erection
of fortifications thereon, a similar bill having been in-
troduced in the House of Delegates.
Mr. Steiner, from a Select Committee, to which had bee"
recommitted
The Senate bill, entitled an Act to prevent incompetent
persons from conducting the business of pharmaceutists or
druggists,
Reported said bill with the following amendments :
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Section 5, line 4, insert the word "managing" between
the words "as" and "owner.'.' Strike out the words "owned
and conducted by a registered pharmacist," in the 5th line.
Section 6, strike out all after the word "Act," in the 9th
line.
Section 8, strike out the words "or re-register," in the.
5th line.
Section 9, strike out the section.
Section 10, change 10, write 9 ; line 3, insert "executors"
between the words "heirs" and "or ;" line 4, strike out all
