1872.] . OF THE SENATE. 385 MONDAY, March 11th, 1872. The Senate met. Present at roll call, the following Senators: Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Crawford, Davis, Downs, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Wilson, Williams—19. The proceedings of Friday were read and approved. Mr. Miller presented the petition of Mary Ewing, praying a pension, Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pensions. Mr. Tuck presented the petition of Joseph P. Smith, pray- ing for a pension. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen- sions. Mr. Williams, submitted the following preamble and order: WHEREAS, the 27th section of Article III., of the Constitu- tion, provides that no bill shall originate in either House during the last ten days of the Session, unless two-thirds of the members elected thereto shall so determine by yeas and nays; and, whereas, Monday, the 1st of April next, is the last day of the General Assembly of Maryland, there- fore be it Ordered, That the Senate will, at this Session of the Gen- eral Assembly, consider no bill which may originate in the Senate, unless the bill itself (and not the leave only,) shall have been introduced on or before the 22d day of March, inst., unless two-thirds of the members of the Senate shall so determine by yeas and nays. Which was read. The yeas and nays being demanded, said preamble and order were rejected, as follows : AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. President, Timmons, Dennis, Tuck, Earle, Williams—7. Steiner, NEGATIVE.
