the Hon. G. Frederick Maddox, late Representative from St.
Mary's county, in our Body, has been called, by the hand of,
death, from our midst, and his representative worth, ability
and experience, has been lost to us. Fully appreciating this
.great loss to our State, but bowing in humble submission to
'the Divine will, it only remains for us to express our rever-
ence and devotion to the memory of the deceased ; and we
propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body, as a
testimonial of respect for the memory of the deceased, and. of
our earnest sorrow for his untimely demise, that the two
Houses of the General Assembly, when they adjourn to-
day, stand adjourned until Monday next, at 12 o'clock,
M., and that the members of both Houses wear the usual
badge of mourning, for the usual time.

Which was read, assented to, and gent to the House of
Delegates.
The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared and deliv-
ered the following message :
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
March 6, 1872.
Gentlemen of the Senate:
We have received your message, proposing the appoint-
-ment of a joint committee of five on the part of the House,
and five on the part of the Senate, to take into consideration
"the claim of the State against the Baltimore and Ohio Rail-
road Company, for one-fifth of the passenger transportation
on the Washington branch road, with a view to its adjust-
-ment, without further litigation, on the principles an-
nounced by the Court of Appeals, on the 30th of May, 1871,
in the case of the State against that Company; and also to
-consider the expediency of releasing the said Company from
the further payment to the State of any portion of said pas-
senger transportation, and. taxing the Company, or receiving
-other equivalent in lieu thereof, and concur therein.
"We have appointed on the part of the House Messrs. Gris-
wold, Chapman, Cotton, of Baltimore City, Baldwin and
(Ford, of Queen Anne's.
