FRIDAY, March 8th, 1872.
The Senate met.
Prayer by Rev. Dr. Henderson.
Present at roll call the following Senators :
Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Denson, Downs,
Dennis, Earle, Henry, Jump, Longwell, Miller, Stephen-
son, Spates, Sellman, Spencer, Steiner, Timmons, Wil-
liams—18.

The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.
Mr. Stephenson presented the memorial of thirty citizens
of Harford county, praying the passage of a law protecting
Insectivorous Birds in Harford county.
Which was read and referred to the Committee heretofore
appointed on that subject.
Mr. Fields presented the petition of W. A. Ford and
others, praying the passage of a law authorizing the County
'Commissioners of Caroline county to appropriate a sum of
money for the improvement of the Court House in said county.
Which was read and referred to Messrs. Fields, Stephen-
son and Compton.
Mr. Williams presented the memorial of the Directors of
Maryland Eye and Ear Institute of the City of Baltimore,
asking an appropriation therein mentioned.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.
Mr. Longwell submitted the following order :
Ordered, That the Senate shall, on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday, of each week, hold evening sessions, until other-
wise ordered, to commence at 8 o'clock, P. M., and to be
devoted to bills of a local character, the counties to be called.
in turn for such bills.
Which was read and adopted.
On motion by Mr. Downs,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Downs, Compton and Wil-
liams, to introduce a bill to repeal an Act passed at Jan-
uary Session, 1870, chapter 61, entitled an Act for the pro-
tection of fish and terrapins in the tributaries of the Potomac
River, lying in St. Mary's county, and to regulate the time
and manner of catching and taking fish and terrapins in that
