TUESDAY, March 5, 18'72.
The Senate met.
Prayer by Rev. Father Freitag.
Present at roll call the following Senators :
Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Carroll, Denson,
Downs, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Longwell, Miller,
Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Spencer, Steiner, Wilson—18.
The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.
Mr. Denson presented the petition of Ammon Cate, Burns
& Sloan, and twenty-seven others, wholesale lumber dealers,
praying that no alteration be made in the inspection law, so
far as the same relates to lumber.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fin-
ance.
Mr. Steiner presented the petition of Benjamin Pitta, and
one hundred and fifty-three other colored citizens of Mary-
land, praying for the establishment and maintenance of sepa-
rate schools lor the education of their children.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.
On motion by Mr. Denson,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Denson, Blake and Long-
well, to introduce a bill, to repeal section 872, Article IV.,
of the Public Local Laws, relating to the City of Baltimore,
and to re-enact the same in an amended form.
On motion by Mr. Downs,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Militia to intro-
duce a bill, to repeal section 18, of Article LXIII, of Public
General Laws of 1868, title "Military," and to re-enact the
same with amendments.
Mr. Sellman, from a Select Committee, to which had been,
referred
The House bill, entitled an Act to repeal sections 54 and
64, of Article XVI., of the Public Local Laws of Montgomery
county, relating to the town of Rockville, and to re-enact the
same with amendments,
Reported favorably thereon,and
Said bill was read the second time.
