1872.] OF THE SENATE. 323 The Sergeant at Arms was sent to notify absent members that their presence was required in the' Senate Chamber. On motion by Mr. Carroll, Further proceedings under the call were dispensed with. The yeas and nays being demanded upon the adoption or rejection of the amendment proposed by Mr. Stephenson, It was rejected, as follows : AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. Blake, Jump, Crawford, Stephenson, Davis, Steiner, Henry, Wilson—8. NEGATIVE. Messrs. President, Denson, Compton, Longwell, Carroll, Spates, Earle, Sellman, Fields, Tuck—10. The vote then recurring upon the passage of the bill, it was rejected for want of a Constitutional majority, as follows; AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. President, Fields, _ Compton. Longwell, Carroll, Spates, Denson, Sellman—9. Earle, NEGATIVE. Messrs. Blake, Stephenson, Crawford, Steiner, Davis, Tuck, Henry, Wilson—9. Jump, Mr. Earle gave notice that he would move to reconsider the said vote within three days, as required by the Rules of the Senate. Mr. Davis moved to adjourn. Which was determined in the negative. The Hon. J. T. Mason having appeared and delivered two communications from his Excellency, Governor Whyte : On motion by Mr. Earle, The Senate proceeded to Executive business, and after a time, resumed the consideration of Legislative business. |
