'. 1872.] OF THE SENATE. 317 FRIDAY, March 1st, 1872. The Senate met. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Highley. Present at roll call, the following Senators: Messrs. President, Blake, Carrol], Crawford, Claggett, Denson, Davis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Longwell, Mil- ler, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Steiner, Tuck, Wilson—19. The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved. Mr. Jump presented the petition of persons drafted in the late war, asking to be reimbursed to the amount of $300, for money paid for substitutes to serve in said war. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi- nance. Also, The petition of W. H. Bruff, and others, praying the in- crease of pay to jurors in Talbot county. Which was read and referred to Messrs. Jump, Tuck and Earle. Mr. Steiner presented the petition of H. Bewley, and fifty- seven other colored citizens of Caroline county, praying for better educational facilities for their children. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Edu- cation. Also, The petition of Ichabod Jean, Samuel Meaken, and thir- ty-two other citizens of Baltimore, praying that Article LXI., of the Mechanics' Lien Law, be repealed. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ju- dicial Proceedings. Mr. Wilson presented the petition of Jane Tayman, asking to be placed on the pension rolls, Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen- sions. Mr. Blake, submitted the following leave to report a bill for the Inspection of Lumber, and the Governor to appoint the Inspectors. |
