292 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 28, duce a bill to repeal the Act of 1870, chapter 94, regulating the salaries of the Bailiffs of the Courts of Baltimore City, and to re-enact the same with amendments. On motion by Mr. Crawford, Leave was granted to Messrs. Crawford, Claggett and Stephens"!! to introduce a bill for the regulation of public roads in Wicomico county. On motion by Mr. Steiner, Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro- duce a bill entitled an Art supplementary to an Act passed at January Session, 1867, chapter 247, entitled an Act to establish and incorporate an Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb of the State of Maryland, and also to an Act passed. at January Session, 1868, chapter 409; entitled an Act to amend and add additional sections to the Act of 1867; chapter 247, also to an Act passed at January Session, 1870, chapter 422, entitled an Act supplementary to an Act passed at the Jan- uary Session, 1867, chapter 247, entitled an Act to establish an Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb of the State of Mary- land, and its supplements. On motion by Mr. Davis, Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed- ings to report a bill for the relief of John T. B. Dorsey. On motion by Mr. Tuck, Leave was granted to the Committee on finance to report a bill entitled an Act to provide for the defense of Officers of Registration, Judges Election, and others, who are indicted in the United States Court for alleged violations of the Act of Congress, approved May 31, 1870, entitled an Act to en- force the right of citizens of the United States to vote in the several States of this Union, and for other purposes. Mr. Claggett presented the petition of citizens of Wash- ington county, praying the passage of a law to authorize the people to contract specially in writing for such rates of inter- est as may be agreed upon by parties contracting. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial Proceedings. Mr. Earle presented the memorial of the stockholders of the Queen Anne's and Kent Railroad Company, asking a, change in the charter as therein named. Which was read and referred to Messrs. Earle, Tuck and Jump. Mr. Claggett presented the petition of Elizabeth Hoffman and Susan Suttlemyer, asking a pension, |
