290 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 28, WEDNESDAY, February 28, 1872. The Senate met. Prayer by Rev. Dr. Henderson. Present at roll call the following Senators : Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Carroll, Crawford, Claggett, Denson, Davis, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Longwell, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Wilson, Williams—23. The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved. The unfinished business of yesterday, Being the message to the House of Delegates in relation to the appointment of a joint committee of both Houses, to take into consideration the matters pending between the State and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, submitted by Mr. Tuck yesterday, coming up in regular order, Mr. Stephenson moved to postpone the consideration of said message, until 1 o'clock, and make it the order of the day for that hour. Which was adopted. Mr. Steiner presented the petition of C. W. James, and. three hundred and ninety-three other colored citizens of Kent county, asking educational facilities. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa- tion. Also, Presented the petition of Robert Young, and one hundred and eighty-seven other colored citizens of Talbot county, praying the same. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Edu- cation. Mr. Jump presented the petition of A. W. Neal, and twenty-six others, against any change in the lines between election districts in Talbot county. Which was read and referred to the Committee heretofore appointed upon that subject, viz: Messrs. Jump, Earle and Fields. |
