190 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 12, MONDAY, February 12th, 1872. Senate met pursuant to adjournment. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Southgate. Present at roll call the following Senators : Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Claggett, Denson, Downs, Dennis, Fields, Henry, Stephenson, Spates, Spencer, Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Williams—16. Proceedings of Friday were read. and approved. The President laid before the Senate the following com- munication : OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF TRADE, BALTIMORE, February 10th, 1872. HON. HENRY SNYDER, President of the Senate of Maryland: DEAR SIR—At a recent meeting of the Board of Trade of this City, it was unanimously .Resolved, That the Board respectfully but earnestly re- monstrate against the passage of any law taxing non-resident traders, believing that such enactments are inconsistent with the interest of the State, and contrary to the present progres- sive age. You .will please present this remonstrance to the Senate, and believe me, dear sir, Your obedient servant, H. L. WHIT RIDGE, President. GEO. U. PORTER, Secretary. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance. Mr. Spencer presented the petition of Isaac S. Rogers, praying certain relief therein mentioned. Which was read and referred to the Committee on' Finance. Mr. Spates presented the petition of James Mclntire, ask- ing; a pension. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen- sions. |
