176 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS Feb. 9,
Mr. Steiner presented the petition of Jacob Wolfe, Joseph
Erb and nineteen other citizens of Union Mills, Md., pray-
ing the General Assembly to make School Commissioners
elective by the people.
Which were severally read, and referred to the Committee
on Education.
On motion by Mr. Steiner, it was
Ordered, That when the Senate adjourns to-day, it stands
adjourned to Monday next, at 12 o'clock, M.
On motion by Mr. Denson,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill, to enable the Board of Beneficence
of St. John's Independent Methodist Protestant Church, of
the City of Baltimore, to carry out the provisions of the last
will and testament of John dark, late of Baltimore county,
deceased.
On motion by Mr. Henry,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Henry, Fields and Stephen-
son to introduce bill, to revive, re-enact and amend cer-
tain sections of the Act passed at January Session, 1851,
chapter 316, entitled an Act to authorize the appointment
of a Commissioner to take testimony to provide for the re-
cording of copies of wills and other papers, of which the
originals were lost by the burning of the Court House in
Dorchester county, and to remedy, as far as practicable, the
evils likely to ensue from the destruction of the records of
said county.
On motion by Mr. Williams, it was
Ordered, That the Librarian be requested to place in the
Senate Committee Boom, for the use of the committees, a
copy of the Code and the Acts of Assembly from 1861. to
1870 inclusive.
On motion by Mr. Claggett,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill, to amend the charters of the Turnpike Com-
panies of Washington County.
Mr. Miller, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings,
to which had been referred the petition of sundry citizens of
Kent county, in relation to increasing the jurisdiction of Jus-
tices of the Peace in said county,
Reported unfavorably upon said petition, and
On motion by Mr. Miller,
