Said message was then sent to the House of Delegates.
Mr. Blake having been appointed by the Chair on said
Committee, was unanimously excused.
Mr. Longwell being appointed, was also unanimously ex-
cused. Mr. Compton then being appointed, was also unani-
mously excused.
The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared and returned
the Senate Joint Resolutions requesting the Senators and
Representatives in Congress from Maryland, to use their in-
fluence to have a survey made of the harbor of the mouth of
Patuxent River.
Endorsed, " Passed by yeas and nays."
Also delivered,
House Joint Resolutions directing the Librarian to present
to the Maryland Historical Society, on behalf of the State,
the books and documents named in the Resolution; provided
said books and documents are now in the Library, and dupli-
cates are retained.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Library.
The President laid before the Senate the following com-
munication from the Comptroller:
TREASURY DEPARTMENT,
Comptroller's Office,
ANNAPOLIS, Feb. 8, 1872.
HON. HENRY SNYDER,
President of the Senate of Maryland:
DEAR SIR—In obedience to the order of the Senate, passed
in the following words :
" That the Comptroller of the Treasury be requested to
furnish to the Senate a statement of the amount expended by
the State in purchasing and building the State Tobacco
Warehouses and wharves attached thereto,"
I have the honor to state to your Honorable Body, that it
appears from the accounts in this Department that there has
been paid out of the Treasury for grounds, ground-rents and
building expenses of the Tobacco Warehouses and wharves
attached thereto, the sum of seven hundred and fifty-three
thousand, two hundred and twenty dollars and thirty-two
cents, ($752,220.32).
