Mr. Wilson presented the petition of John P. Hopkins and others; of Prince George's county, praying the passage of laws to tax the capital stock of the Baltimore and Ohio R. R. Company, and to compel said Company to pay into the Treasury the amount fixed and declared by the Courts to be® due the State. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi- nance. Also, The petition of Charles A. Wells, John Dare and fifty- four other citizens of Prince George's county, praying the enactment of measures of economy, retrenchment and reform. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi- nance. On motion by Mr. Jump, The Senate adjourned. THURSDAY, February 1, 1872. The Senate met pursuant to adjournment. Prayer by the Rev. Father Freitag. The following-Senators present: Messrs. President, Blake, Carroll, Crawford, Claggett, Denson, Downs, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Long well, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Steiner, Timmons, Wilson, Williams—20. The Journal of yesterday was read and approved. On motion by Mr. Fields, Leave of absence was granted to the Sergeant-at-Arms for one day. 9 |
