House, to visit the House of Refuge and Maryland Peniten-
tiary, and to examine into their condition, and also to exam-
ine into the condition of the prisoners in the Penitentiary,
and recommend to the Governor meritorious cases for Execu-
tive clemency.
We have appointed on the part of the Senate, Messrs.
Blake and Jump.

Mr. Steiner presented the petition of Catharine Head,
widow of a soldier of the war of 1812, asking to he placed upon
the pension rolls.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.
Mr. Henry presented the petition of Thomas T. King,
Thomas J. Baird and Isaac D. Jones, committee on behalf
of the Maryland State Bible Society, praying a continuance
of its charter and change of its name to that of "Maryland
Bible Society."
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.
On motion by Mr. Tuck,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill, entitled an Act ceding to the United
States of America jurisdiction over the lands contained with-
in the enclosures of the National Cemetery, near Annapolis.
The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared and delivered
the following message:
BY THE HOUSE or DELEGATES,
January 26th, 1872.
Gentlemen of the Senate :
We have received your message, proposing the appoint-
ment of a Joint Committee, of three from the Senate, and
five from the House, to visit the Maryland Hospital, &c.,
and to report upon all matters which may be of interest to
the State.
An order having been passed instructing the Committee on
Public Buildings to investigate the whole matter, we decline
to concur therein.
