1872.] OF THE SENATE. 73; FRIDAY, January 19, 1872.. The Senate met pursuant to adjournment. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Southgate. The following Senators were present at roll call: Messrs. President, Compton, Carrol', Crawford, Claggett,. Denson, Davis, Downs, Dennis, Fields, Henry, Jump, Long- well, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Spencer, Steiner, Timmons, Wilson, Williams—19. The President laid before the Senate the following com- munication from the Comptroller of the Treasury : STATE OF MARYLAND, > TREASURY DEPARTMENT, > Comptroller's Office, J ANNAPOLIS, January 17, 1872- How. Henry Snyder, President of the Senate : PEAR SIR—In obedience to the order of the Senate, passed' 9th January, 1872, I have the honor to present the enclosed statement, showing the net receipts into the Treasury from. Tobacco Inspection, from the establishment of the Tobacco- Warehouses ; and also the net receipts from the wharves at- tached to said Warehouses, from the year 1852, to the end of the fiscal year 1871. Very respectfully, LEVIN WOOLFORD, Comptroller of the Treasury. STATEMENT OF THE STATE TOBACCO WAREHOUSES. The net receipts from the State Tobacco Ware- houses, received by the State Tobacco Inspec\tors, and paid by them into the State Treas- ury, from 1825, the passage of the Act estab- lishing the State Tobacco Warehouses, were $678,199 88- The net receipts from the State Wharfinger, from the State Tobacco Warehouse wharves, from May, 1852, to September 30, 1871, were 38,653 78. $716,853 66 There are none of the reports from Stale Wharfingers filed in this office prior to May, 1852, -.and for this reason 1 am unable to specify the receipts from the Tobacco Warehouse wharves previous to that date.
