The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by Rev. Mr. Southgate.
The following Senators were present at roll call:
Messrs. President, Compton, Carrol', Crawford, Claggett,.
Denson, Davis, Downs, Dennis, Fields, Henry, Jump, Long-
well, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Spencer, Steiner, Timmons, Wilson, Williams—19.
The President laid before the Senate the following com-
munication from the Comptroller of the Treasury :

How. Henry Snyder, President of the Senate :
PEAR SIR—In obedience to the order of the Senate, passed'
9th January, 1872, I have the honor to present the enclosed
statement, showing the net receipts into the Treasury from.
Tobacco Inspection, from the establishment of the Tobacco-
Warehouses ; and also the net receipts from the wharves at-
tached to said Warehouses, from the year 1852, to the end of
the fiscal year 1871.

STATEMENT OF THE STATE TOBACCO WAREHOUSES.
The net receipts from the State Tobacco Ware-
houses, received by the State Tobacco Inspec\tors, and paid by them into the State Treas-
ury, from 1825, the passage of the Act estab-
lishing the State Tobacco Warehouses, were $678,199 88-
The net receipts from the State Wharfinger,
from the State Tobacco Warehouse wharves,
from May, 1852, to September 30, 1871, were 38,653 78.
$716,853 66
There are none of the reports from Stale Wharfingers filed
in this office prior to May, 1852, -.and for this reason 1 am
unable to specify the receipts from the Tobacco Warehouse
wharves previous to that date. The original coat of build-
