Mr. Compton moved to amend the order by adding the
words, " This order not to apply to Senators."
Which, upon vote,
Was determined in the negative.
The question recurring upon the original order,
It was adopted.
On motion by Mr. Tuck, it was
Ordered, That the Committee on Federal Relations inquire
into the expediency of so altering and amending the Consti-
tution of the United States, as to prohibit the re-election, to
the office of President or' the United States, of any person
who has once held said office, and of reporting resolutions to
that effect to be laid before the Congress of the United States.
On motion by Mr. Stephenson, it was
Ordered, That James C. Clarke, President of the Chesa-
peake and Ohio Canal Company, furnish to the Senate, as
soon as possible, a certified copy of the bill lately filed by
W. W. Corcoran, in the Courts of the District of Columbia,
against the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, with a
copy of the rules of practice of said Courts; also a certified
copy of all action that has been taken by the President and
Directors of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company relat-
ing to said suit; a certified copy of the answer filed or to be
filed by the Canal Company in said suit; the names and resi-
dence of the counsel employed, or to be employed by the
Canal Company to defend said suit; the compensation to be
paid counsel; with a copy of all papers or action taken relat-
ing in any way to said suit by the President and Directors
, of said Canal Company.
Be it further ordered, That the Secretary of the Senate is
