THURSDAY, January 18, lt<72.
Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by Rev. Father Freytag.
Present at roll call the following Senators :
Messrs. President, Compton, Carroll, Crawford, Claggett,
Denson, Davis, Downs, Dennis. Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump,
Longwell, Miller, Stephensun, Spates, Sellman, Spencer,
Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Wilson, Williams—'24.
Mr. Jump presented petition of Caleb Lee, asking a pen-
sion.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.
Mr. Jump presented the petition of Mary Brainer, widow
of Wm. Brainer, asking a pension.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.
Mr. Earle presented the petition of G. W. Parris and
others of Beaver Dam, Queen Anne's county, praying the
passage of an Act incorporating said town, and also to
change the name of said place from Beaver Dam to Waverly.
Which was read, and referred to Messrs. Earle, Spencer
gild Jump.
Mr. Stephenson. submitted, the following order :
Ordered, That the smoking of tobacco shall not be al-
lowed in the Senate Chamber, nor in the Committee Booms
adjoining, either during the sitting of the Senate or its re-
.cesses, and the Sergeant-at-Arms and Doorkeepers are here-
by directed to enforce this order.
Mr. Fields moved to postpone further consideration of the
order until Monday, 22nd inst.,
Which, upon vote,
Was determined in the negative.
Mr. Dennis moved to lay the order on the table,
Upon which Mr. Stephenson demanded the yeas and nays,
And.
The motion to table was determined in the negative, as
