WEDNESDAY, January 17, 1872.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hendereon.
Present at roll call the following Senators :
Messrs. President, Compton, Carroll, Crawford, Claggett,
Densou, Davis, Downs, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump,
Longwell, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Sellmau, Spencer,,
Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Wilson, Williams—24.
On motion by Mr. Denson, it was
Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Senator
Blake is absent in consequence of sickness.
On motion by Mr. Davis,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings, to prepare and report A bill, to repeal section 2, Arti-
cle 37, Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Evidence,"
and enact a substitute therefor.
On motion by Mr. Longwell,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to prepare and report a bill, to add new sections to Arti-
cle 51, of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Jus-
tices of the Peace," and to provide for making Judgments-
rendered by Justices of the Peace, liens on land and lease-
hold property.
On motion by Mr. Stephenson, it was
Ordered, That the Comnntte.' on Judicial Proceedings, in-
quire into the expediency of amending Article 93, of the
Code of Public General Laws, title "Testamentary Law," so
as to prevent limitation of time being a sufficient plea against
claims agrtinst a decedent, when riich claims are within time,
when presented, passed and recorded by a Register of Wills,
according to section 114 of said Article.
On motion by Mr. Jump,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Jump, Downs and Steiner,
to prepare a report a bill, relating to fences in Talbot county.
On motion by Mr. Davis,
Leave was gianted to Messrs. Davis, Tnck, and Spencer,
to prepare and report, a bill to repeil (ho Act incorporating
