BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 12th, 1872.
Gentlemen of the Senate :
We have received your message, proposing that the presi-
ding officers of the two Houses address to John W. Davis,
Eaq., elected State Treasurer, a joint letter, informing him
of his election, and concur therein.

The President laid before the Senate the following commn-
aication from the Treasurer elect:
ANNAPOLIS, January 16, 1872.
To the Honorable Henry Snyder,
President of the Senate, and
The Son. A. P. Gorman,
Speaker of the House of Delegates of Maryland :
Gentlemen—I have received your letter, informing me of
any election to the office of Treasurer of the State.
I beg that you will return my grateful acknowledgements
to the Legislature, for the honor which it has conferred upon
me ; and that you will communicate to that Body my accept-
ance of the office,
I shall endeavor to discharge its duties in a manner satis-
factory to the Legislature, and the people of the State ; and,
although I shall not again be a candidate at the close of my
term of office, I trust that my official career will be found to
liave deserved approval.
I have the honor to be,

Your obedient servant,
JOHN W. DAVIS.
Senate bill, entitled an Act to incorporate the Fell's Point
Hebrew Fliendship Congregation, was taken up, and
On motion by Mr. Donson,
Was amended by adding the following :
Section 2. And te it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
The bill was then read the second time, and ordered to be
engrossed for a third reading.
The Senate bill, entitled an Act to change the name of
the Children's Aid Society, of Baltimore, to the Henry
Waton's Children's Aid Society,
