1872.] OF THE SENATE. 11 Samuel Davis, appointed Janitor, appeared, qualified, and entered upon the duties of his office. Senators Blake and Compton from the Joint Committee appointed to wait upon his Excellency the Governor, and inform him that the two Houses of the General Assembly were organized and ready to receive any communication he might be pleased to make, reported that the committee had per- formed that duty, and that they had been requested by his Excellency to inform the Senate that he would communicate a message to the two Houses on to-morrow at 11 1/2 o'clock, A. M. On motion by Mr. Wilson, The Senate adjourned FRIDAY, January 5, 1872. The Senate met pursuant to adjournment. Present at roll call the following Senators : Messrs President. Blake, Compton, Carroll, Crawford, Claggett, Denson, Downs, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Longwell, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Spen- cer, Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Wilson, Williams—24. The President laid before the Semite the annual report of the State Treasurer. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance, hereafter to be appointed. (See Document B.) On motion by Mr. Blake, Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance, hereafter to be appointed, to prepare and report a bill, entitled an Act to add an additional section to Article 56, of the Code of Pub- lic General Laws, relating to licenses. On motion by Mr. Steiner, Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed- ings, hereafter to be appointed, to prepare and report a bill, entitled an Act giving the sanction of the General Assem- bly of Maryland to certain legacies bequeathed by the last |
