Which was read and referred, to the Committee on Finance,
hereafter to be appointed.
On motion by Mr. Wilson, it was
Ordered, That Augustus Gassaway be appointed Secre-
tary; Wm. H. Hiss, Reading Clerk ; Solomon E. Smith,
Journal Clerk; James T. Blackistone, Sergeant-at-arms;
George Harris, Door Keepers; and Wm. H. Penington, Page.
The several officers present were then qualified, by taking
the oath prescribed by the Constitution.
Mr. Blake submitted the following message :
By THE SENATE,
January 4th, 1872.
Gentlemen of (the House of Delegates :
The Senate has organized by the election of Hon. Henry
Snyder, President, and the appointment of Augustus Gassa-
way, Esq., Secretary. We are now ready to proceed with
the business of the Session, and propose, with the concurrence
of your Honorable Body, the appointment of a Joint Commit-
tee of three members, to wait upon the Governor, and inform
him that the Legislature is prepared to receive any commu-
nication he may be pleased to make. We have appointed,
on the part of the Senate, Messrs. Blake, Compton and.
Earle.
By order,
AUGUSTUS GASSAWAY,
, Secretary.
Which was read; assented to, ami sent to the House of
Delegates.
On motion by Mr. Stephenson,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Stephenson, Tack and Spen-
cer to prepare and report a bill, entitled an Act to repeal
Chapter 411, passed at January Session, 1870, entitled an
Act to add additional sections to article sixty-nine of the
Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Officers," regulating and prescribing the number and compensation of offi-
cers of the Senate and House of Delegates, and repealing Acts
inconsistent therewith.
On motion by Mr. Carroll, it was
Ordered, That a committee of three be appointed by the
Chair to confer and report upon the names of-' ministers suit-
able to officiate as Chaplains in the Senate during the Session.
The Chair appointed Messrs, Carroll, Earle and Denson as
said committee.
