Ordered. That the Special Committee appointed to visit
and inspect the State Tobacco Warehouses, have leave of ab-
ence commencing Wednesday, January 31st, during the
time necessary to perform the duties of said committee.
, Which was adopted.
Mr. Griswold submitted the following order:
Ordered, That L. G. Sparrow be excused from attendance
upon the House until Wednesday next.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Spencer submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Committee on the Judicinry be instruct-
ed to ascertain whether any member, of this General Assem-
bly, is, directly or indirectly, interested in the profits of the
printing done lor the Assembly at its present Session, and if
any member be interested, whether it consists with his offi-
cial oath under Article I., section 6, of the Constitution of
Maryland, which says :
"1 will not directly, or indirectly, receive the profits or any
part of the profits of any other office during the term of my
acting as ————." (Senator or Delegate.)
The committee shall report whether it is sound public
policy for any member of either branch of the General As-sembly to be interested in any contracts made by the Body of
which he is, at the time thereof, a member.
They shall also inquire how the accounts for printing are
settled, how audited, and by what committee, and whether
any member of this General Assembly, interested in such ac-
counts, is on the Auditing Committee, and, it so, whether as
Chairman or member thereof. The Committee may send for
persons and papers, and report to this House.
Which was read.
Mr. Steele moved to lay the order on the table,
Decided in the negative.
Mr. Stone submitted the following amendment:
Strike out the words, " the Committee on the Judiciary,"
and insert a Select Committee of five.
Which was adopted.
The order, as amended, was then adopted, and Messrs.
Spencer, Stone, Henkle, Griswold and Miller, appointed
aid committee.
