Section 8, chapter 7, line 1, strikeout the word "district," and insert "public." Which was adopted. Mr. Henkle submitted the following amendment: AMENDMENT PROPOSED. Chapter 8, section 2, add "given to the teacher in writ- ing." Mr. Groome submitted the following amendments: AMENDMENT'S PROPOSED. Chapter 9, section 4, line 1, strike oat the words "it is," and insert the word "being." In line 2, of same section, strike out the word "it," and insert the word "he." Which were severally read and adopted. Mr. Griswold submitted the following amendment: AMENDMENT PROPOSED. Add at end of section 1, chapter 10, the words: "And the Governor shall appoint, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, every four years, three disinter- ested educated persons, citizens of Maryland 1, who shall se- lect and adopt the text books which shall be used in the Public Schools; Provided, that any change in books shall be gradual, as new books are needed, and that no county shall be put to increased expense thereby; they shall receive no sal- ary, but the State Board shall provide for the necessary ex- pense of their meetings. Which was rejected. Mr. Linthicum submitted the following amendment: AMENDMENT PROPOSED. Section 2, line 2, chapter 10, strike out all after the word "county," to end of section, and insert "as may be selected by the State Board of Education, Provided, that any change in books shall be gradual, as new books shall be needed, and that no county shall be put to increased expenses thereby." Which was rejected. |
