The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following mes- sage : BY THE SENATE, January 4, 1872. Gentlemen of the Souse of Delegates : The Senate has organised by the election of Hon. Henry Snyder, President, and the appointment of Augustus Gassa- way, Esq., Secretary. We are now ready to proceed with the business of the Session, and propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Rody, the appointment of a Joint Com- mittee of three members, to wait upon the Governor, and in- form him that the Legislature is prepared to receive any communication he may be pleased to make. We have ap- pointed, on the part of the Senate, Messrs. Blake, Compton, and Earle. By order, AUGUSTUS GASSAWAY, Secretary. Which was read. On motion of Mr. Kirk, Mr. Cooper was excused from serving on the Select Com- mittee upon the appointment of officers, and Mr. O. R. Ham- ilton substituted therefor. On motion of Mr. Streett, Mr. Riley was excused from serving upon said committee,, and Mr. Baldwin appointed in his stead. Mr. Griswold submitted the following message : BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES, January 4, 1872. Gentlemen of the Senate : The House of Delegates has organised by the election of the Hon. Arthur P. Gorman, as Speaker, and the appoint- ment of Milton Y. Kidd, Esq., as Chief Clerk. We are now ready to proceed with the business of the Session, and pro- pose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body, the ap- pointment of a Joint Committee of five members, three on the part of the House, and two on the part of the Senate, to wait on the Governor and inform him that the Legislature is prepared to receive any communication he may be pleased to |
