On motion of Mr. Merrick,
The House proceeded to the consideration of the bill en-
titled an Act making appropriations for the support of the
Government for the year ending the first day of January,
eighteen hundred and seventy-one.
Said bill being upon a third reading,
Mr. Hardcastle, of Talbot, by unanimous consent, sub-
mitted the following amendment:
Section 1, sub-section " Charitable Institutions," line 22,
strike out the words, "Orphans' Home on;" and insert the
words " Home for Friendless Children or," in line 23, after
the word "Maryland," insert the words, "at or near Eas-
ton."
Which was adopted.
Mr. Purnell moved that the further consideration of the
bill be postponed, and that it be recommitted to the Com-
mittee on Ways and Means, with instructions to report a
