The Senate bill entitled an Act to authorize and empower
the County Commissioners of Caroline county, to make sale
of a part of the land belonging to the Almshouse property of
said county, without amendments,
Said bill was then read a second time.
Mr. Neill, Chairman of a Select Committee to whom was
referred the Senate bill entitled an Act to protect birds of
every description in the county of Washington, excepting
owls, hawks, doves, wild-pigeons, woodcock, jacksnipe and
reed birds, reported the same with proposed amendments.
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Strike out all after the word "bill," and insert the fol-
lowing :
Entitled an Act to provide for the protection of birds in
Washington county.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That no person shall trap, shoot or in any manner catch,
kill, or wound any bird or birds or Wild Fowl of any kind or
description whatever, in Washington county, except hawks,
owls, wild-ducks, wild-pigeons, jacksnipe, plover, sand pipus,
reed birds, cedar birds and rails ; Provided, however, that it
shall be lawful to shoot woodcock between the twentieth day
of June and the thirty-first day of December, in each year ;
pheasants, bull bats or night hawks and doves between the
twelfth day of August and the thirty-first day of December,
wild turkeys between the first day of November and the first
day of the ensuing March, and partridges from and after the
twentieth day of October in the year eighteen hundred and
seventy-two, until the thirty-first day of December next
ensuine, and between the twentieth day of October and the
thirty-first day of December annually thereafter.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That any person or persons vio-
lating the preceding section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and on conviction thereof in the Circuit Court for said county,
shall be fined not less than ten or more than twenty dol-
lars or be imprisoned in the county jail not exceeding twenty
days or until payment of said fine and costs, one-half of said
fine to be paid to the County Commissioners of said county
for the use of the Public Schools of said county, and the other
half to the informer.
Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
