A bill entitled an Act to add additional sections to the
Code of Public Local Laws for Charles county, under the
head of Roads.
Which was read a first time.
The Secretary of the Senate returned the following bill:
The bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 149, 150, 151,
152, 153, 154, 155, 156 and 157, of the third Article of the
Public Local Laws relating to roads in Baltimore county,
and sub-sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, and section 3, of the
Act of the General Assembly of Maryland, chapter 411, ap-
proved March 30th, 1868, and to re-enact the following sec-
tions in lieu thereof,
Endorsed, "Passed by yeas and nays with proposed amend-
ments."
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Section 4, line 6, strike out the word '' two thousand '' and
insert five hundred.
Amend 13th section by adding after the word "fund,"
7th line: and whenever there shall not be sufficient money in
the county treasury set apart as the special road and bridge
fund of any district, the County Commissioners are hereby
authorized to borrow upon the credit of the county, a sum of
money not exceeding two thousand dollars, to meet the re-
quirements of said district, and shall pay the same, together
with the interest thereon, out of the special road fund set
apart for said district.
Insert in section 16, page 10, after the word "improve-
ment:" provided, the parties desiring to make said improve-
ment shall first subscribe an amount double that to be paid
by the County Commissioners.
Amend in 48th line of 16th section, after word "road,"
and whenever there shall not be sufficient money in the hands
of the County Commissioners, assessed and collected for the
payment of damages and the cost of construction of any road
under this Act, the County Commissioners are hereby directed
to pay such deficiency out of the special road and bridge fund
of the district or districts so assessed, and if more than one
district is assessed the deficiency shall be paid out of the
special funds of such districts in proportion to the amount of
the assessment of such districts.
Sec. 19. Amend by striking out all after the word "them,"
to the end of the section.
Sec. 20. And be it enacted, That the County Commis-
sioners of Baltimore county shall not expend any of the
