rations.

Mr. Baldwin, of Anne Arundel, presented the petition of
Horatio Ridout and others, asking the passage of a law to
prevent the sale of intoxicating liquors within a quarter of a
mile of the school house in school district No. 9, of Anne
Arundel county.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.

Mr. Watkins presented the petition of R. H. Cashell, L. L.
Brunett, Jasper Jackson, Wm. Pierce, and 33 others, citi-
zens, for a tax on dogs, for the encouragement of sheep rais-
ing in Montgomery county.

Also,

The petition of Josiah Harding, William Baker, Richard
Williams, William R. Trucks, Thomas B. Cissell and 48
others, for a tax on dogs, to encourage sheep raising in
Montgomery county.

Also3

The petition of John H. Gassaway, Howard Griffith, Isaac
Young, Nathaniel Clagett, John L Dufief, and 95 others,
for a tax on dogs, to encourage sheep raising in Montgomery
county.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee-
on Agriculture.

Also,

The petition of the colored people of Montgomery county,
to extend the provisions of the law of bastardy to their race.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the-
Judiciary.

Mr. Hilton submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal, that J. W.
Veitch is detained from his seat in this House by reason of
sickness.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Carroll submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the State Printer be required to report to
this House the reason why the Journal of Proceedings is not
furnished daily.
