cattle, horses, sheep or swine for trespass on lands, unless
the same is enclosed by a good substantial fence not less than
four and one-half feet high.
The unfavorable report was adopted.
Mr. Ritter, Chairman of a Select Committee, to which was
referred the bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 164,165, 167
and 169, of an Act passed January session, 1868, chapter 87,
entitled an Act to add additional sections to Article 11, of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Frederick county, relating
to the powers and duties of the Mayor, Aldermen and
Common Council of Frederick, to follow sections 161, and to
substitute in lieu of sections 164, 165, 167, and 169, the fol-
lowing, reported favorably thereon with the following pro-
posed amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Strike out section 169, and insert the following :
169. They shall have power to provide for apprehending
all vagrants, and for committing them to the jail of Frede-
rick county for a term not exceeding thirty days, and they
shall provide by ordinance for taking such vagrants from the
jail, from day to day, and compelling them to work at such
labor as shall be required by the Mayor, and it shall be the
duty of the Sheriff to permit such vagrants committed to the
jail to be taken therefrom and returned thereto, during the
time for which they may be committed, as often as the Mayor
shall direct, and by such person as he shall designate. And
the said Sheriff shall not be entitled to charge or receive any
other fee than that which is or may be allowed by law for re-
ceiving such vagrants into his custody when first appre-
hended and committed, nor more than twenty-five cents per
day for boarding such vagrants, which jail fees and costs for
boarding shall be paid to the Sheriff by the Mayor, Alder-
men and Common Council of Frederick.

The further consideration of the bill, with proposed
amendment, was postponed and made the order of the day
for Tuesday, March 22d.

A bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 806, 807 and 808,
of the Code of Public Local Laws of the City of Baltimore,
sub-title "Police," and re-enact the same with amendments.
