The bill, as amended, was then read a second time and or-
dered to be engrossed for a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Walking,

At 10 1/2o'clock P. M., the House adjourned until to-morrow
morning at 11 o'clock.

FRIDAY, March 18, 1870.

The House met and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Southgate.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Latrobe, (Speaker,) Loker, Martin, Beck, Wilmer,
Baldwin, of Anne Arundel, Wells, Owings, Duke, Mitchell,
Chapman, Cameron, Shipley, Gatch, Choate, Turner. Ham-
mond, Hardcastle, of Talbot, Lankford, Harrington, Wool-
ford, Meekins, Touchstone, Owens, Richards, Biddle, Mar-
bury, Wootton, Duvall, Thomas, of Queen Anne's, Brown,
Purnell, Thomas, of Frederick, Bowlus, McCreery, Ritter,
White, Ady, Baldwin, of Harlord, Hopkins, Garey, Sanner,
Hamilton, Cooper, Morse, Blake, Webb, Wilson, of Balti-
more city, Wiley, McLane, Colton, Kirk, Coiling, Ehlen,
Markland, Marshall, Hoblitzell, Neill, Welty, Sword. Hilton,
Veitch, Watkins, Standish, Myers, Percy, Shower, Winters,
Crouse, Merrick, Cravvfbrd, Gordy—72.

Mr. Choate presented the petition of Noah Walker, J.
Howard McHenry, J. T. Councilman and 35 others, praying
for a law to prevent stock from running at large within two
miles from Pikesville, Baltimore county.

Which was read and referred to the Baltimore county
delegation.

Mr. Veitch presented the petition of Susanna McDonald,
of Montgomery county, for a pension,

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Harrington presented the petition of Margaret Staple-
fort, of Dorchester county, asking compensation for colored
slave, Moses Smith, who enlisted in the United States Army.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.
