Mr. Purnell submitted the following amendment:

Strike out all under title "Baltimore City," and insert
the following :

BALTIMORE CITY.

To the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, as per Arti-
cle 4, section 127, of Public Local Laws, entitled "Auctions,"
twenty thousand dollars; to the members of the Appeal Tax
Court of Baltimore city, fifty dollars each, (one hundred and
fifty dollars;) to the Register of Baltimore city, three hun-
dred dollars; to the Maryland Penitentiary, for so much on
account of the salaries of its officers, eight thousand dollars,
for the support of the Maryland Penitentiary, thirty thousand
dollars; to the House of Refuge, fifteen thousand dollars; to
the Law Department of the University of Maryland, one thou-
sand five hundred dollars; to the Maryland Institute for the
Instruction of the Blind, as per Act of 1868, fifteen thousand
dollars for the current year, and also five thousand dollars to
make up the deficiency of the appropriation for the year
1869; and to the Maryland Hospital, four thousand dollars.

CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS.

To the Home of the Friendless, fifteen hundred dollars, to
the Rev. Edward Brannan for the use of St. Edward's
Academy in the City of Cumberland, to be applied to the
support and education of free scholars of said Academy, the
sum of fifteen hundred dollars; for Children's Aid Society of
Baltimore city, five hundred dollars a year for two years,
(one thousand dollars;) for the Boys' Home, five hundred dol-
