Mr. Bowlus, Chairman of a Select Committee, (the rules
being suspended,) reported favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to enable Peter Leatherman and
George Leatherman, to sell a certain piece of property belong-
ing to the Tunker Church, near Wolfsville, in Frederick
county.

Which was read a first time.

The House then resumed the consideration of the unfinish-
ed business of the morning session, being

The bill entitled an Act making appropriations for the
support of Government for the year ending on the first day
of January 1871.

Said bill being upon a second reading,

Mr. Cooper submitted the following amendment:

Sec. 1, title "Baltimore City," at the end of line 20, add
to St. Patrick's Orphans Asylum, five thousand dollars.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Cooper submitted the following amendment:

Sec. 1, title "Baltimore City," at the end of line 20 add:
to St. Michael's Orphan Asylum, five thousand dollars.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Owings submitted the following amendment:

Sec. 1, title "Baltimore City," at the end of line 20 add:
and five thousand dollars to aid in building an Academy at
Prince Frederick, Calvert county.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Merrick submitted the following amendment:

Sec. 1, title "Baltimore City," add at the end of line 20
the words: to the Maryland Institute for the promotion of
Mechanic Arts, three thousand dollars.

The question recurring upon the adoption of the amend-
ment,
