WEDNESDAY, March 16th, 1870.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Henderson.

Present at the call of the roll the following members:

Messrs. Latrobe, (Speaker,) Loker, Martin, Beck, Wilmer,
Kilbourn, Wells, Owings, Mitchell, Chapman, Carroll,
Cameron, Gatch, Choate, Turner, Hammond, Hardcastle, of
Talbot, Bratlan, Lankford, Harrington, Woolford, Meekins,
Touchstone, Owens, Richards, Biddle, Marbury, Wootton,
Duvall, Thomas, of Queen Anne's, Brown, Dennis, Purnell,
Thomas, of Frederick, Bowlus, McCreery, Ritter, White,
Ady, Baldwin, of Harford, Hopkins, Garey, Sanner, Hamil-
ton, Blake, Wilson, of Baltimore city, Wiley, McLane, Col-
ton, Kirk, Collins, Markland, Marshall, Hoblitzell, Neill,
Welty, Murdock, Sword, Hilton, Watkins, Kean, Standish,
Myers, Percy, Jordan, Winters, Merrick, Gorman, Craw-
ford, Gordy—69.

The Speaker laid before the House the petition of Wm.
Harrison, Johns Hopkins, Archibald Stirling and others,
protesting against the granting of appropriations to Benevo-
lent Associations.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Also,

The petition of Mrs. Corvilla Carson, a widow of a soldier
of the war of 1812, praying for a pension.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pensions.

Also,

The communication from J. H. Simpson, Colonel of Engi-
neers and Brigadier General U. S. A,, in relation to the
Craighill Channel in the harbor of Baltimore.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. McLane, Cooper,
and Wiley.

Mr. White presented the petition of Geo. W. Delawler,
Wm. Brown & Brother, citizens of Frederick county, pray-
ing the passage of a law to prohibit the sale of intoxicating
liquors within two miles]of Mount Mosiah Lutheran Church,
Hauvers district.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.
