728 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 12,

Mr. Markland presented the petition of W. W. Maughlin
and sundry others, asking that the pretest inspection on
lumber may remain as it is, or abolished altogether.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Inspec-
tions.

Mr. Jordan presented a petition from the President and
Directors of the Union Bridge Turnpike Company, praying
that section 11, of the Act incorporating said Company, may
be so amended as to allow said Company to consolidate with
the Liberty, Johnsonville and Pike Creek Turnpike Company
at any time now or hereafter.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpora-
tions.

Mr. Bowlus presented the petition of Joseph Brown, Daniel
Michael and 90 other citizens, praying the passage of a law
requiring all Municipal Corporations in Frederick county, to
pay all jail fees for prisoners committed by the officers of
said corporation.

Which was read and referred to the Frederick delega-
tion.

Mr. Jordan submitted the following order :
Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr. A.
Winters is absent to attend to business.
Which was adopted,

Mr. Richards submitted the following order:
Ordered, That Mr. Touchstone have leave of absence till
Monday next.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Bowlus submitted the following order :
Ordered, That it bettered on the Journal that Mr. White
is absent from his seat on important business.
Which was adopted.

Mr. Purnell submitted the following order :
Ordered, That the Clerk enter on the minutes that Mr.
Dennis is absent because he has been summoned to appear as
a witness before the U. S. District Court in Baltimore city.
Which was adopted.

Mr. Hopkins Submitted the following order :
Ordered, That Mr. Baldwin, of Harford, have leave of ab-
sence until Monday next.
Which was adopted.

Mr. Markland submitted the following order :
Ordered, That Mr, Hoblitzell is absent from this House on
important business.
