Mr. Touchstone nominated James Pentland, of Baltimore
city.

Mr. Colton nominated William H. Owens, of Baltimore
city.

Mr. Hamilton nominated William H. Jillard, of Balti-
more city.

Mr. Ehlen nominated Hon. Thomas W. Morse, of Balti-
more city.

Mr. Hammond nominated William H. Hiss, of Baltimore
city.

The Senators of Maryland accompanied by their Secre-
tary, entered the Hall of the House of Delegates, and took the
seats assigned them upon the floor.

The Speaker, as Chairman of the Joint Convention, then
announced that the Senate and House would now, in Joint
Convention, proceed to the election of a Police Commissioner
for the City of Baltimore, to fill the vacancy caused by the
death of Lefevre Jarrett, as required by the Act of Assembly
of 1867, chapter 367, and as agreed upon between the Houses.

The names of the persons nominated on the part of the
House having been read by the Clerk,

Mr. Snyder nominated George H. Steuart, of Baltimore
city.

The Chairman appointed Mr. Malone, of the Senate, and
Mr. German, of the Huuse, to act as tellers.

The Secretary of the Senate and Clerk of the House of
Delegates then proceeded to call the roll of the respective
Houses.

Whereupon each member proceeded to ballot.

Upon com ting the ballots of the Senators, it appearing that
25 ballots had been cast, when but 24 Senators had answered
to their names,

On motion of Mr. Clarke,

The roll of the Senate was again called by the Secretary,
and each member approached the Clerk's desk and deposited
his ballot as his name was called.

The tellers then proceeded to count the ballots.

Upon counting the ballots, Mr. Malone, on the part of the
tellers reported that there had been 24 votes cast upon the
part of the Senate, and 80 votes on the part of the House, of
