678 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 10,

Mr. Kilbourn, acting Chairman of the Committee on
Ways and Means, reported favorably,

A bill entitled an Act making appropriations for the sup-
port of the Government for the year ending the first day of
January 1872.

Which was read a first time.

The hour of 12 o'clock, M., having arrived, being the time
agreed upon between the two Houses, to proceed to the elec-
tion of a Police Commissioner tor the City of Baltimore, to fill
the vacancy caused by the death of Lefevre Jarrett; and to
elect a Commissioner for the full term of four years from
March , 1871, as required by the Act of Assembly of 1867,
chapter 367,

Mr. Saaner submitted the following message:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

March 10, 1870.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

In concurrence with a message adopted March 2nd, we re
spectfully solicit the presence of your Honorable Body in this
Hall this day 12, M., to go into an election for Police Com-
missioner.

Chief Clerk.

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following
message:

BY THE SENATE,

March 10th, 1870.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

We have received your message inviting this Body into the
Hall of the House of Delegates to proceed to the election of a
Commissioner of Police for the City of Baltimore, in confor-
mity with the arrangement heretofore agreed upon by a con-
current vote of both Houses, and will in a few moments meet
your House in Joint Convention.

Secretary.

Which was read.

Mr. McLane nominated, John W. Davis, of Baltimore
city.

Mr. Brattan nominated Samuel G. Miles, of Baltimore city
