ciary, to whom had been referred the bill entitled an Act to
repeal section 1, Article 11, Constitution of Maryland,

Reported back the same with proposed amendments, as a

substitute therefor.

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That in pursuance of the power contained in section 9
of Article 11, of the Constitution, entitled "Baltimore City,"
section 1 of said Article be, and the same is hereby changed
and altered, so far as provides that the term of office of the
Mayor of Baltimore city shall continue for four years, and
that he shall be ineligible for the term next succeeding that
for which he was elected.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That hereafter an elec-
tion for Mayor of the City of Baltimore shall be held on the
fourth Wednesday of October in every second year after the
next election for Mayor to be held in said city, in the year
1811, and the term of office of the Mayor of said city shall

continue for two years, and until his successor shall have
qualified.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Which were severally read and adopted.

And the bill, as amended, read a second time, and ordered
to be engrossed for a third reading.

Also, favorably,

The bill entitled an Act to change the jurisdiction of the
Supreme Bench of Baltimore city, and reapportion and en-
large the jurisdiction of Baltimore City Court, the Superior
Court of Baltimore City, and the Court of Common Pleas, as
provided by section 39 of Article 4, of the Constitution.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Gorman, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported
favorably, without amendment,

The Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal an Act of the

Code of Public Local Laws of 1868, chapter 358, entitled an
Act to provide for the repairs of the public roads of Howard
county.

Mr. Merrick, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported fa-
vorably,

A bill entitled an Act to provide for maintaining and
keeping in repair the public roads of Howard county, and to
repeal the Act passed at the January session, 1868, chapter
358) entitled an Act to provide for the repairs of the public
roads in Howard county.

Which was read a first time.
