a law regulating fishing in the Potomac river and tributaries.

Also,

The petition of Joseph Price, and other citizens of Charles
county, in relation to the shad and herring fisheries in and
upon the Potomac river.

Also,

The petition of John T. Chapman, Wm. M. Elliot, and
others, owners aud tenants of fishing shores upon the Poto-
mac river, for an amendment of the laws relating to fisheries
upon said river.

Also,

The petition of John M. Latimer, B. W. Blandford, and
others, of Charles county, for additional legislation to pro-
tect the shad and herring fisheries in the Potomac river.

Which were severally read and referred to Messrs. Mitchell,
Chapman and Marbury.

Mr. Hoblitzell presented the petition of 135 citizens of
Baltimore city against the making of tin cans in the Mary-
land Penitentiary.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Manu-
factures.

Mr. Biddle presented the petition of S. B. Grant, A. W.
Mitchell, Geo. E. Howard and 50 others, asking for increased
compensation to witnesses in civil actions, and for a law com-
pelling prompt payments.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.

Mr. Collins presented the petition of Elizabeth McCauly,
asking for a pension.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Wells presented the petition of Janetta R. Chancy,
asking for a pension.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Shipley presented the petition of Orplay Gosnell, Eliza-
beth Dorsey and Caroline Ousler, widows of soldiers of the
war of 1812, asking for a pension.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Merrick presented the petition of O. H Owings and
