Additional.

hundred and sixty-seven, Chapter three hundred
and forty-one, be and the same is hereby amended
by adding to Section two of said Act the following
words or proviso, exempting mortgages from as-
sessment and valuation, viz :
|
Tax on mort-
gages abolish-
ed.
|
"Nor shall any tax of any kind be assessed,
levied or collected on any mortgages of any kind,
or on any mortgage or bill of sale upon any prop-
erty in this State."

Repealed.
|
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That all
laws heretofore passed in relation to the assessment
and valuation of property in this State, so far as

they are inconsistent with this Act, are hereby re-
pealed; and this Act shall take effect from the
date of its passage.

CHAPTER 395.
|
|
AN ACT to regulate the Trial Fees of the State's
Attorney for Dorchester County.
|
Fees of Attor-
ney.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That in all criminal cases which may
be tried in the Circuit Court for Dorchester County,
the Judges of said Court may, in addition to the
sum allowed by law as an appearance fee, allow to
the State's Attorney for said county such compen-
sation in each case, by way of trial fee, as the said
Judges may think just and proper, to be levied by
the County Commissioners.

Compensation
allowed.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That for services
rendered by the State's Attorney for Dorchester
County, before committing magistrates in prelimi-
nary examinations, the Judges of said Circuit
Court for Dorchester County may allow to said
State's Attorney such compensation not exceeding
the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars for any
one year, as the said Judges shall think just and
proper; and for all trials in criminal cases before
magistrates, the same fees shall be allowed the
said State's Attorney as are now allowed in similar
