CHAPTER 362.

 

AN ACT to assess and collect taxes on the pro-
perty of the several Railroad Corporations char-
tered by the State of Maryland.

 

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That all and every provision con-
tained in the charters, or supplements thereto, of
any Railroad Company incorporated by the laws of
this State, or contained in any law heretofore passed
by the Legislature of this State, whereby the stock
or property, real or personal, of any Railroad Com-
pany, whose lines or line of railroad passes or may
pass through or over any part of the territory of
this State is exempted from taxation, be and each
of the same are hereby repealed.

Repealed.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the stock and pro-
perty, real and personal, of each and every such
Railroad Company, shall be taxed for State, county
and municipal purposes in the same manner as the
stock and property of other corporations are now
by law taxed, and the tax authorities of the sev-
eral counties and city of Baltimore, are hereby
authorized and directed to proceed, under existing
laws, to assess and collect taxes on said stock and
property, in the same manner as upon like stock
and property of other corporations now taxed, or
liable to taxation, by the laws of this State; pro-

vided, that no extra assessment shall be made, and
no extra or special tax shall be levied or collected
on any bridge or bridges over a navigable stream
forming any part of the road-way of any railroad
or railroads in this State,

Exempt.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
