the tollgate, whether led or ridden, or whether
driven, attached to a vehicle of pleasure or of bur-
den, the sum of one cent and a half for every mile,
and in that proportion for any greater distance
traveled unless the vehicle drawn shall have a tire
over three inches and one-half in width, in which
case one-half of the above rate shall be charged.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 233.

AN ACT to repeal Section nine of Article twenty-
eight, of the Code of Public General Laws relat-
ing to the publication of county expenses, so far
as the same relates to Caroline County, and to
re-enact the same, with amendments.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That so much of Section nine of Ar-
ticle twenty-eight of the Code of Public General
Laws, as relates to Caroline County, be and the
same is hereby repealed, and the following enacted

in lieu thereof: The County Commissioners of
Caroline County are hereby authorized and em-
powered to pay the publishers of the newspapers
selected by them the sum of two hundred dollars
for the publication of all the county expenses of
said county, including levy list, registration and
election notices, the said printing to be well exe-
cuted in clear type on white paper, the said publi-
cation to appear once a week for at least three
weeks.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That if the publish-
ers of any newspapers selected by the said County
Commissioners shall refuse to publish the said levy
list and notices, as herein directed, then the said
County Commissioners shall cause the said levy
list and notices to be published in handbill form
at a cost not exceeding fifty dollars, and posted up
at the most public places in each of the 'election
