CHAPTER 37.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Governor
to appoint an additional Justice of the Peace in
the fifth Election District of Baltimore County.

Additional
Justice.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Governor be and he is
hereby authorized and empowered to appoint an
additional Justice of the Peace in and for the fifth
Election District of Baltimore County, in addition
to those now required to be appointed by existing
laws.

In force.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
Approved February 19, 1870.

 

CHAPTER 38.

 

AN ACT to amend an Act passed March ninth,
eighteen hundred and fifty, to incorporate the
Potomac Steamboat Company, and to extend the
charter of the same as amended.

Issue bonds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Potomac Steamboat Com-
pany be and are hereby authorized to issue bonds
of one thousand dollars each, to an amount not
exceeding one hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
and bearing interest at a rate not exceeding six
per cent, per annum, which said bonds may be
disposed of by the Potomac Steamboat Company
in such manner as the stockholders may in general
or in special meeting direct.

Mortgage.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That the Po-
tomac Steamboat Company are hereby empowered,
for the purpose of securing the payment of both
the principal and the interest of the bonds author-
ized by this Act, to create a mortgage or lien upon
any portion or upon the whole of their property,
either by deed or trust, or otherwise, as may be
deemed most judicious; and further, for the pur-
pose of promoting the sale of the said bonds, the
