pleted, it shall and may he lawful to erect a gate,
and it shall and maybe lawful for them to appoint
such and so many toll-gatherers as they shall think
proper to collect and receive of or from any person
or persons using said road or roads, the toll and
and rate per mile as established by this Company

under the provisions of its Act of Incorporation;
provided, that the rates and tolls so regulated shall
not exceed those of other roads of like nature in
this State, and may stop any person riding, lead-
ing or driving any horses, mules, oxen, coaches,
carts, wagon, wain or sled, cattle, hogs, sheep,
sulky, chaise, phaeton, or other carriage of pleasure
or burden from passing through said gates until
the tolls for the said passage shall have been paid;
provided, that no toll gate shall be erected within
one mile from the incorporated limits of any town
or village through which said road may pass.
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the plural num-
ber, wherever used in the aforegoing Act, shall in-
clude the singular for all purposes necessary to the
same.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to amend an Act passed March eighteenth,
eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, entitled " An
Act to revise and extend an Act to incorporate the
Worcester Railroad Company," passed at the
January Session, eighteen hundred and fifty-
three, with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That all the powers conferred upon
the said Worcester Railroad Company by the
original Act, to which this is a supplement, au-
thorizing and enabling them to acquire and hold
property for the purpose of the said Road, shall
