Worcester counties and to enact a substitute therefor, Was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for a
third reading.
On motion by Mr. Fields, The regular order of business was suspended in order to give
the Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal the Acts of 1867 and
1868, granting pensions to soldiers of the war 1812 and their
widows, the second reading.
On motion by Mr. Fields, The Senate was called, and the Sergeant-at-Arms directed
to inform absent Senators that their attendance was required
in the Senate Chamber.
On motion by Mr. Fields, Further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.
Said bill was then placed upon the second reading.
Mr. Clarke submitted the following amendment:
The provisions of this Act shall not apply to pensioners, of
the war of 1812, or their widows under sixty-five years of age
who have no other visible means of support except such as are
derived from pensions. Mr. Malone submitted the following amendment to the
amendment:
A BILL Entitled an Act to repeal the Act of 1867, chapter 385, and
the Act of 1868, chapter 432, entitled "Acts granting to cer-
tain Soldiers and Widows of Soldiers of the war of 1812, a
pension of eighty dollars per annum," and re-enact the fal-
lowing in lieu thereof: SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That chapter 385 of the Act of 1867, and chapter 432
of the Act of 1868, be and the same are hereby repealed, and
the following enacted in lieu thereof. SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the State Treasurer, upon
the Warrant of the Comptroller, be and he is hereby author-
ized and directed to pay an annual pension of eighty dollars,
in four equal quarterly installments of twenty dollars, to
each one of the persons hereinafter named, daring his or her
natural life, to wit: James Harrison, Thomas Jones, Jasper
Y. Bowen, Martha Kershall, Sarah Dawkins, Louisa Wills,
Jacob Breeden and William Ogden, of Calvert county; Nicy
Douglas, Eleanor Aikman, Thomas Roberts, Joshua Grouch
and Joshua Baily, of Wicomico county ; Provided, that be-
fore the Comptroller issue his warrant upon the Treasurer,
under the provisions of this Act he shall require each and
every one of the aforementioned pensioners to file in his office,
