dy—82. On motion of Mr. Clarke, The Joint Assembly then proceeded to the election of a
Police Commissioner for the City of Baltimore, for the lull
term of four years, from 15th of March, 1871. Upon counting the ballots, Mr. Malone, on the part of
the tellers, reported that John W.Davis bad received..................52 votes,

Wm. H. Jillard " ..................2 "
Thomas W.Morse " ..................47 " Total number of votes cast......... 107 Whereupon, the Speaker declared that no person having
received a majority of all the votes cast, the Joint Assembly
would, proceed, to another ballot. Mr. Brattan withdrew the name of Samuel G. Miles.
Mr. Hamilton withdrew the name of Wm. H. Jillard.
