WEDNESDAY, March 9,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Southgate.
Present at roll call, the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Biggs, Carroll, Denson, Earle, Fields,
Hyland, Jump, Maddox, Malone, Miller, Parker, Sellman,
Snyder, Spates, Stephenson, Timmons, Welch, Wilson—19.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. Carroll presented the petition of Sterling & Ahrens,
and 400 other merchants of Baltimore, asking the repeal of
the Inspection Laws of this State.

Also,

The petition of John R. Conway & Son and other mer-
chants of Baltimore, on the same subject.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Finance.

The President laid before the Senate the following commu-
nication :

BALTIMORE, March 2, 1870.
Hon. Barnes Compton,
President of the Senate:

DEAR SIR—In accordance with a request of the Board of
Trade of the City of Baltimore, I desire to ask the return of
a memorial presented to your Honorable Body, in my name,
on behalf of said Board, on the subject of Life Insurance.—
Another memorial on this subject, covering resolutions of a
later date, will be submitted for your consideration by the
Board.

Your obedient servant,

F. B. LONEY.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.
Also,

A communication from Bradley T. Johnson, asking for
the passage of an Act to provide for the burial of the Mary-
land Confederate soldiers who fell in the late civil war.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.

Mr. Welch presented the petition of Philip F. Basin, and
200 other citizens of Kent county, praying for an Act to in-
corporate a railroad from Salisbury to some point in Kent
county, opposite Baltimore.
